About this Event:

June 23–26 | 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Daily

Hunter Education is a comprehensive safety course required for new hunters and designed to shape safe, ethical, and knowledgeable outdoorsmen and women. This hands-on course is led by certified Hunter Education instructors Jenny Schucker and Alexis Schneider, who are passionate about passing on the skills and responsibility that come with life in the field.

Over four full days, students will build a solid foundation in:
  • Safe firearm handling and range procedures
  • Hunting laws and ethical decision-making
  • Wildlife conservation and habitat stewardship
  • Shot placement and respect for game
  • Outdoor preparedness and responsibility

A mandatory range day will be held June 26th, where students will put their training into action in a safe, closely supervised environment.

To earn certification, students must complete all course requirements, be an active participant throughout all four days, pass a written exam with a minimum score of 80%, and demonstrate safe firearm handling skills.

Students as young as 8 years old may enroll. However, the curriculum is written at approximately a 5th-grade reading and comprehension level, and the days are structured and full.

This course is best suited for:
  • Youth preparing for their first hunting season
  • Students mature enough to handle responsibility and safety expectations
  • Young outdoorsmen and women who can focus, participate, and complete a written test
  • Families who value building a strong safety-first mindset before heading into the field

We expect attentiveness, respect, and a willingness to learn — because safety in the outdoors is not optional. Full attendance all four days is required to pass this course.

What You'll Need to Bring:
  • $10 course fee
  • Lunch/Snacks
  • Water Bottle
  • Weather-Appropriate Outdoor Attire/Closed-Toe Shoes

Be prepared to spend time both indoors and outdoors. Dress for the elements.

This course will be held at Academy of the Winds. 780 Von Bieker Dr. Lander, WY.

STUDENT AGREEMENT FORM

Graduates of this course are expected to demonstrate their knowledge of the material presented in class and in homework assignments on both verbal and written examinations. The demonstration of skill in safe gun handling is an important completion requirement. The student’s attitude toward the course of instruction and the acceptance of the principles of responsible hunter behavior weigh heavily in the pass/fail decision for each student.

Wyoming Hunter Education Law requires any person born on or after January 1, 1966, to successfully complete a hunter education course. The following policies and procedures have been outlined so you will fully understand the requirements for successfully completing the course.

Attendance at all sessions is required. Due to scheduling difficulties, make-up sessions will not be allowed. If you fail to attend any portion of the course your certification will be denied. Students are expected to be in their seats and ready for class at that time.

The following areas of concern will be used in evaluating each student for certification.
 1. Class attendance
 2. Prompt attendance at class sessions
 3. Completion of homework assignments and worksheets
 4. Participation in class activities and discussions
 5. Scores on written quizzes
 6. Score on the final examination
 7. Performance on the firearms field course
 8. Behavior in class and during the field exercise
 9. Attitude

I have read the above policy and understand the requirements for successful completion of the Wyoming Hunter Education Course.
